The veterans Assistance benefit is part of a Special Pension program.

Many Veterans and their surviving spouses qulaify when they are in need of extra assistanxe to help pay for Residential & Assisted living facilities or In-Home Care.

The Aid and Attendance (A&A) Pension provides benefits for veterans and surviving spouses who require the regular attendance of another person to assist in eating, bathing, dressing and undressing or taking care of the needs of hygiene. It also includes individuals who are blind or a patient in a nursing home because of mental or
physical incapacity. Assisted care in an assisting living facility also qualifies.

The qualification process of A&A requires the determination and approval of a physician that you need daily assistance to dress, undress, bathe, cook, eat, put on or take off prosthetics, go on errands, etc.. You only have to qualify for some, not all of these criteria.
